            Quite often we get calls from business owners that are extremely nervous about their roofing system being super high-tech and costing a fortune, and it seems the concern level is even higher when they ask us about EPDM or "rubber roofing" replacement or repair.  Commercial One Roofing has been doing this type of work for decades, and there's no reason to be anxious when it comes to rubber roofing.
           
            Rubber roofing on flat roof architecture is definitely among the most common type of roofing materials for commercial roofing in low slope roof designs (similar to Modified Bitumen) . Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM for short) is a synthetic roofing membrane that's rubber in nature and has a high durometer.  Propylene and Ethylene are two of the main chemicals in EPDM, and its main chemical compound is a formulation of Natural Gas and Oil. Primarily available in Black and White, EPDM, is manufactured in a wide range of different roll width.  These rolls are from approximately eight to 40 feet and typically sold in a thickness of 45 and 60 Mils each. Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer Rubber Roofing is installed using different methods depending on the roofing materials being bonded.  Its installation is ballasted using specially engineered tape or liquid adhesives, mechanically affixed or fully glued using rollers.

             A lot of contractors will attempt to take on this type of installation because it appears to be a relatively simple concept to install, but it becomes an issue to install EPDM when the contractor doesn't understand how to evenly layout the rubber off the roll.  These large sheets hold memory and will tend to take the shape of its original form which can be detrimental to the installation if not prepared.  We are entirely ready for this, and for us, it's just another roofing style among many.  Whether you need a little repair, not sure what you need, or you've decided on having an entirely new roof installed, be sure to give us a call.
